Trick or treat safely! OPP shares Halloween safety tips for kids and drivers

OPP say they will have patrols out on Halloween night.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding everyone to stay safe this Halloween as children head out for treats.

Drivers must be especially cautious during the evening, the OPP's Bill Dickson says, as excited children may not pay attention while crossing streets.

Parents are also encouraged to prepare their children with safe costumes and supervision. With rain in the forecast, Dickson said to think about waterproofing costumes and consider makeup instead of masks that might limit vision. And make sure kids don’t eat candy until they get home.

The OPP will have patrols out on Halloween night but stressed they cannot be everywhere, but they could be anywhere.

He also reminded children to carry flashlights or wear reflective items and cross streets safely while having fun.
