The Kingston Frontenacs have a new captain.
The organization announced on Tuesday that defenseman Vann Williamson will wear the "C". He becomes the 48th team captain in franchise history.
Williamson says he was thrilled when head coach Troy Mann announced during practice that he will be the captain from here on out.
Williamson succeeds Jacob Battaglia as the team captain. Battaglia was traded to Flint on Sunday.
The 19-year-old from Ajax, Ont is in his fourth OHL season, all with the Frontenacs.
He says it is an honour to be playing in Kingston where he has had a lot of success.
The Frontenacs are sitting 7th in the OHL's Eastern Conference two points back of North Bay and Niagara who are in a tie for fifth.
Williamson says it will be his job to help boost the team's spirits for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.
Williamson's first game as captain of the Frontenacs will be this Thursday night against the Spirit in Saginaw. Game time is 7:05 pm and you can catch the action with Jim Gilchrist on Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs Hockey on New Country 98.9.
