Advance voting in Kingston sees large turnout

Across Canada, two million voters cast ballots on Friday alone

Thousands voted in Kingston and the Islands during advance polls — in a strong turnout that echoed national numbers.

Across Canada, two million voters cast ballots on Friday alone.

Elections Canada says Friday is usually quiet, but this year broke the pattern. Some local polling stations, including Royal Kingston Curling Club and the Holiday Inn, had lineups lasting up to two hours.

Saturday saw more steady turnout, but was not as hectic as Friday. Official numbers for the full weekend are expected soon.

In 2021, 22,934 people voted over all four advance days. Total turnout in the region was 67,950 in that election.

Advance voting continues until 9 p.m. Monday, Apr. 21. Those who miss that deadline can vote at the Returning Office at 40 Hyperion Court on Tuesday, Apr. 22 until 6 p.m.

Election Day is set for Monday, Apr. 28.
