It will consist of two towers with 455 residentials units, grocery store will continue to operate there.
There could be new condominiums built in downtown Kingston.
A notice posted outside a property on Barrie St. near Princess St. proposes a new mixed-use building where a Metro grocery store currently sits.
The proposed development would see a five-storey podium and two residential towers.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Mayor Bryan Paterson says this development will not only open up more housing units but will see the Metro grocery store continue to operate out of there.
One tower will have 19 stories, the other 23 stories. The two buildings combined will have space for 455 residential units.
The new development will also feature a re-designed delivery zone, an upgraded transit stop, and a parking garage above the Metro store.
The developer is applying to have a zoning by-law amendment on the property.
Paterson says there will be a public consultation process before the city proceeds with this development.
A public meeting is slated for Thurs. Sept. 4 inside the council chambers at City Hall.
